How to Safely Clean an LCD Screen?

The liquid crystal display screen is the medium of human-computer interaction, and it will inevitably be dusty or polluted if it is exposed to various environments for a long time. When you want to clean an LCD screen, do you have the right method in mind? Maybe those well-known practices are wrong!

LCD screen preparation before cleaning

LCD screens are actually fragile and can easily be damaged if not cleaned properly. Before cleaning the LCD screen, be sure to turn off the power and allow the hot screen to cool down. Not only does this eliminate the risk of electric shock, but dust is more conspicuous on a black screen.

Do not press the LCD screen

Do not press too hard when cleaning the LCD screen, as this may damage the surface or anti-glare coating. Spray a cleaning solution, such as isopropyl alcohol diluted with pure or distilled water, onto a microfiber cloth and wipe gently in an up-and-down or side-to-side motion. Too much pressure can shorten the lifespan of even the most durable screens.

suitable cleaning cloth

There are several types of cleaning cloths available. A microfiber cloth is recommended here. It's light and soft, yet strong enough to clean your screen thoroughly without causing damage. The tiny fibers in a microfiber cloth are interwoven in intricate ways, so it's able to remove large amounts of dirt and dust without streaks or lint. You can also use a cotton cloth if you don't have a microfiber cloth on hand.

Never spray liquid cleaners directly onto the screen

It is dangerous for LCD screens to come into direct contact with liquids (especially if they are in operation). It is safer and smarter to first wipe the surface of the screen with a dry cloth to remove dust; then spray a small amount of cleaning solution onto another cloth and wipe the screen lightly to remove stubborn stains; finally, use a clean dry cloth to remove surface residue of liquid.

Avoid cleaning products that contain ammonia

Never use cleaners containing ammonia or rubbing alcohol on the LCD screen. They can damage the extremely fine anti-glare coating on the screen, negatively impacting the viewing experience, especially in bright sunlight where scratches will be noticeable.

Vacuuming

Dust is often hidden in the gap where the frame and the surface of the screen intersect, and the dust will cause damage to the interior of the liquid crystal display module. It can be cleaned regularly with a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush (to prevent scratches).
